“Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”
-Proverbs 31:11-12 NLT
A wife of noble character has a job to do: be submissive to her husband. How can she do that? What ways can she? By training herself to be trustworthy and bring good to her husband.
No, I'm not married. One day I may, and with that said, I want to learn how to be a wife of noble character. Even so, I can learn to be a woman of noble character as well through these scriptures of Proverbs 31.
Now men. I'm not excluding you. Reminder: this is a search list for you and a check list for the women. You will want to read Proverbs 31 and study it to learn if the woman you are with or soon will meet is a Proverbial woman. Will she be a wife who will bring you good? Is she trustworthy?
Let me continue with the ladies again.
Ladies. Don't take the word submissive as to be treated like a dog, taken advantage of or used and thrown away like trash. To submit means to yield, resign, or surrender to the power, will or authority of another; to give up resistance.
In other words, a wife (or woman) of noble character lowers herself, bringing herself to a humility state to authority. She is giving the position of authority to Jesus and then to her husband (in that order), while the husband submits himself to Jesus and willingly lays down his life for his wife like Christ did. The wife of noble character willingly surrenders to her husband just as her husband chooses to surrender his will to Christ.
Charles Spurgeon stated, "Out of our love for Christ and our gratitude for His work of salvation, Christians choose to submit their way, wills, affections, thoughts, desires and understanding to God."
Submission that is based on love, and true commitment, brings peace and harmony to you, your (future) spouse and to your (future) family.
Submission isn't a bad thing...at all! I mean Jesus Himself did it too!
Christ lived in perfect submission to our Heavenly Father and His will. Jesus submitted to the will by living in the flesh for our sakes and giving His life for us, sinners! This is love. Real and pure love. Submission is love, and love is found in Jesus.
In Philippians 2:6-9 Paul writes, "Though He (Jesus) was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He (Jesus) gave up His divine privileges; He (Jesus) took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He (Jesus) appeared in human form, He (Jesus) humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated Him (Jesus) to the place of highest honor...."
If Jesus can submit to the will of God, so should we.
Men, submit to God's will and love your wife like Christ loves the church. Women submit to God's will and humble yourself. We both can, then, will we bring good to each other and see the goodness of God (Psalms 27:13)
SUBMISSION LOOKS LIKE JESUS! :)
